Vision or Ambition

Genesis 13:10-11
10 So Lot looked and saw that the valley of the Jordan was well watered everywhere—this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah; [it was all] like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar [at the south end of the Dead Sea]. 11 Then Lot chose for himself all the valley of the Jordan, and he traveled east. So they separated from each other.

God had called Abraham and given Him a promise and a vision. Lot his nephew had come along and as Abraham was blessed, so was Lot. Now they are at a cross road because they are so blessed and the land cannot support their flocks. Abraham tells Lot to chose which way to go and Lot looks with his natural eyes and he chooses what looks good to the eye. When you read the whole account, you get to know that it did not end too well for the land he chose.
We all have ambitions, which can be said to be your personal views of the future you desire based on what you see. The dictionary defines ambition as a strong desire to achieve something. Nothing wrong with that but the question is, are your desires aligned to the will of God?
Proverbs 19:21 Amplified Bible (AMP)
21 Many plans are in a man’s mind, But it is the LORD’S purpose for him that will stand (be carried out).
Many times if we are not careful, our ambitions lead us away from what God has planned for us because more often that not, our ambitions are based on self and building our ego. Like the tower of barbell, we want to create a name for ourselves.
No wonder the bible would tell us in the same book pf proverbs
Proverbs 16:3 Amplified Bible (AMP)
3 [a]Commit your works to the LORD [submit and trust them to Him],
And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance].

When we learn to surrender our plans and ambitions to God then He will lead us and align them to His purpose and as we have learned, His purposes never fail.

Reflections
Do you run after your ambitions or do you commit them to the Lord and trust that he knows best?

What happens when you commit your ambitions to the Lord and He says don’t go that way? Do you ignore him and move on with your plans only to blame Him when they cause you pain or do you listen and trust in Him?

Develop a habit of committing every plan you have no matter how small to God and develop an ear to listen to His response because He always does!
