Understanding God’s Grace: Enabling Grace
Titus 2:11-12 Amplified Bible (AMP)
11 For the [remarkable, undeserved] grace of God that [a]brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It teaches us to reject ungodliness and worldly (immoral) desires, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives [lives with a purpose that reflect spiritual maturity] in this present age,
The is one very important aspect of God’s grace that we hardly talk about. When we have conversations about the grace of God we mainly focus on the forgiveness of our sins and the fact that Christ died once and for all and that is correct.
But what about the enabling power of God’s grace?
According to our key scripture for today, God’s grace is also a teacher but the question is, are we willing students? His grace teaches us to reject ungodliness and worldly immoral desires. This tells me that if truly receive Gods grace and you respond to it then you can never continue sinning willfully just because of the fact that God will forgive you.
Not only does Gods grace teach us and enables us to say no to ungodliness but it also teaches and enables us to have self-control and to live sensible upright lives. That which we were not able to do before, His grace enables us to do for the purpose of reflecting spiritual maturity in this present age.
The question I then ask myself is this, “ Have I been a good student to learn what the grace of God is continuously teaching me or do I have to keep repeating the same lessons over and over again?
Romans 6:15-16
15 What then [are we to conclude]? Shall we sin because we are not under Law, but under [God’s] grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that when you continually offer yourselves to someone to do his will, you are the slaves of the one whom you obey, either [slaves] of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness (right standing with God)?
The question is, who are you a slave to?
