The Power of the Tongue: Trouble

Proverbs 21:23 (AMP)
23 He who guards his mouth and his tongue Guards himself from troubles.

The message of this scripture is simple, if you don’t guard your mouth then it will lead you into trouble. Many are they who are wondering why they are experiencing so much trouble in their life today not realizing that their unguarded mouth is the genesis of all their trouble.
Words are the expression of our thoughts and our thoughts are built from what we are exposed to. As the Bible says, as a man thiketh in his heart so is he.
Guarding our mouth is a personal responsibility, no one can do it for you. How then do you guard your mouth?

Matthew 12:34 (AMP)
For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.

Your heart is the reservoir that supplies the mouth with the words to speak. What is important to you is what will fill your heart for where your heart is there your treasure will also be. When your heart is sold out to God then the words that come out of your mouth will be words that are filled with grace encouragement and love.
Every day we have a choice to make before we open our mouths to speak. When we allow emotions to run our lives then we get into a whole lot of trouble. How many times have you said something in the heat of the moment and no sooner had you said it then you regretted what you had just said and your words got you into trouble? Fellowship with the Holy Spirit helps us to guard our mouths so that we know what to say and when to speak.

Allow God to work in your heart, allow Him to transform you from the inside out and then from the abundance of your heart you will speak life!

Reflective Thoughts
Has your tongue ever gotten you into trouble? What did you say and what happened after that?

What is in abundance in your heart will dictate the content of your conversations…. Reverse that, think about your conversation and the words and topics that dominate your talk; what then is in abundance in your heart?
