The Need for a Mentor – Handling God’s Vision

Luke 1:39-43
39 Now at this time Mary arose and hurried to the hill country, to a city of Judah (Judea), 40 and she entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, her baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and empowered by Him. 42 And she exclaimed loudly, “Blessed [worthy to be praised] are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?

The angel Gabriel on delivering the good news to Mary about the messiah that she is to birth by the power of the Holy Spirit, also mentions that Elizabeth, the one whom people had said she is barren and cannot conceive a child, is now pregnant. The very first thing that young Mary does is pack her bags and go on to visit with Elizabeth and she stays with her for three months.
The moment she shows up even before she says anything Elizabeth under the leading of the Holy Spirit confirms the very thing that the angel told Mary.
You and I need a mentor to walk with us if we are to fulfil the vision of God over our life. A mentor will encourage us to stay on the path of our calling, they will confirm the very things that God has spoken to us because truth be told, in between the time we receive the vision and when we see it as a reality, we will go through discouragement and sometimes self-doubt. Even our father of faith Abraham went through moments of self-doubt.
Think about the young prophet Samuel, though God had rejected Eli the old prophet, Samuel still needed him to teach him to recognise the voice of God.
May God lead you to someone who will mentor you and walk with you as you fulfil God vision because it’s not just about getting a mentor but its allowing God o connect you with the right person.
