The Importance of Prayer

The Importance of Prayer
Investigating Prayer
Mark 1:35 NKJV
Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

How important is prayer in your life?
Prayer is communicating with God almighty. It is an invitation for God to take charge of situations in your life. In essence, it is humbling ourselves, recognizing our weakness and inviting God into the affairs of our life.
For Jesus, prayer was indispensable, and it took top priority in his life. Many instances are recorded of him separating himself from others to pray. His custom was to wake up early long before daylight to pray because prayer was important to him.

It was Martin Luther who said,” I have so much to do I will spend the first three hours praying.”
Prayer should be so important in our life that it comes first before we engage in anything. This is a demonstration and a declaration that we are depending on God and not our strength. Unfortunately for many of us, prayer is the last resort after we have tried everything else and it fails, then we consider prayer.
The life of Jesus and the life of the Apostles were filled with prayer. They prayed and sought God’s guidance and strength before they engaged in the work God had given them to do. Jesus prayed and fasted before he begun his ministry. He also prayed before he went to the cross and his ministry life was full of prayer.

It is only when we humble ourselves recognizing that we are weak and in need of God, and see the power in prayer and its necessity, then we will give it priority in our life. It is said that a prayerless Christian is a proud Christian because your lack of prayer is a declaration that you do not need God and you are all sufficient all by yourself.

Prayer must not only be a priority but it must be practised. Everyone must do their own praying because it is only through praying that we develop our prayer life and relationship with God. Yes, we are to pray for one another but you can’t always depend on others to pray for you, we all must connect with God personally.
Weak praying begets weak living. Men ought to pray always and faint not.
