The Greatness of Serving
Mark 10:43-44 NKJV
43 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
To be a servant in the kingdom of God is a great honour and privilege. When you study your bible, you will discover that all the great men of the bible who did exploits for God were referred to as God’s servants. The world will teach you that there is no honour in serving and that if you are truly great then others should serve you. This is not so in the kingdom of God. Jesus says that in His kingdom, the greatest person is the servant of all.
Not only did he say this, but he also demonstrated it by laying down his life that we may have life and life abundantly. Remember, before Jesus was arrested to be put to death on the cross, he washed his disciples’ feet, and he said to them;
13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
The washing of feet was a duty for the lowest of servants, and yet, Jesus took that position to teach us that we have a duty to serve one another.
Jesus humbled himself to serve us by laying down his life for us. God the father then glorified him and gave him a name that is above all names. Even we as we humble ourselves to serve others and to do so with joy and a pure heart, we can expect that God will reward us for the good works we do.
Serving is great because when you serve, you truly get to touch and impact the lives of others and bring about change that they will remember for a long time.
What is your attitude towards serving?
Whose life have you impacted by serving them? How did you serve them?
Are you a servant of God? How are you serving him?
