Power of Words: Life and Death
Proverbs 18:21 (AMP)
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.
Many people take words so lightly we speaking without thinking about the effects of our words because we believe words have no consequences. No wonder we come up with statements like “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Our key verse today tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue! Now that is huge when you really think about it. With words we can either give life or pronounce death.
Mark 11:14 Jesus speaks to the fig tree and using words He pronounces death over it and it comes to pass, the disciples are astonished. Think about this as well, when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, he used words!
Our tongues carry power and we use them everyday many times not being intentional in our use. We allow emotions and moods to direct how we use this amazing power.
Words bear fruits and consequences, that’s a guarantee. Whether good or bad depends on the words we spew from our mouths.
As believers we should align our speech with what the Bible says. The Bible is the word of God thus we should speak what God speaks no matter what we see in the natural. Jesus came that we may have life thus we should always speak life and not death.
