Patient and Kind

1 Corinthians 13:4 NIV

Love is patient, love is kind.

Love is a subject that is talked about and written about all the time but do we really know what we are talking about when we discuss love? Have we embraced a counterfeit instead of the real thing?

Yesterday we established that God is love and where there is an absence of God then there is no love but a counterfeit. So, how is this love expressed?

Love is patient and it is kind.

Psalm 145:8 NIV

The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.

True love that comes from God is patient. The scripture above is one among many that talks about God being slow to anger and rich in love. For 40 years He was patient with the children of Israel in the wilderness and He is still patient with us today. How many times do we disobey His word yet He is patient with us slow to anger and rich in love and mercy? That is how true love expressed itself because it is not self-seeking.

Ephesians 2:6-7 NIV

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

To be kind is to be generous considerate and friendly and that is how God demonstrates His love or Himself towards us in Christ Jesus. How we respond to this love does not change the nature of this love. Though He is patient with us and kind, not all of us have ever reciprocated that love but His love remains consistent.

The worldly kind of love is conditional and self-seeking. It will only display patience and kindness when it is getting what it wants, but when that changes then it becomes hate and resentment.

Take out.

God is love and he is patient and kind towards us that is how we should be with others when the love of God flows in us.

Remember.

Love never fails.
