Mindsets: Son-ship

Romans 8:15 Amplified Bible (AMP)
15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “[a]Abba! Father!”

When you think about your relationship with God, do you picture a father son relationship or do you see a master slave relationship? Your mindset makes a whole lot of difference and it determines how you relate to God. A good number of us struggle with this concept because our strongest point of reference which is our relationship with our earthly fathers is messed up and when we think about God being our father, that is what we project.

As sons of God we understand that we are part of a family in which we are loved not because of our performance but because we belong to God and He has embraced us as His sons. As sons we have the understanding that we have an inheritance, with that in mind then we focus on our father’s business. When we have that understanding, we don’t have to be forced to serve in the house of God or demand this and that before we can serve, we do it gladly because we know that we are sons going about our father’s business. As sons His house is not a strange place where we visit once in a while, it a place we are familiar with, it’s a place we call home. No wonder Jesus said to Mary and Joseph “Why did you have to look for Me? Did you not know that I had to be [c]in My Father’s house?”

Because I have the understanding that I am a son, I am secure and I know how to handle correction and discipline. When God disciplines me I do not complain about being victimized and shove the blame on someone else, I have the revelation that He disciplines those He loves and He has my best at heart. (Heb 12:6)

Because I am a son, I want to share my most intimate thoughts with my father, prayer is not a religious duty that I have to perform, it is an opportunity I gladly embrace to be able to connect with my father and share my innermost thoughts desires frustrations and fears with Him because I know that He loves and cares for me.
God is our father, he is the perfect father, He says He has good plans for us trust Him!

Reflections
A son is no stranger in His father’s house, are you a stranger in the house of God? Do you only show up when you feel like or do you consider it to be home?
