Lessons from Abraham – His Timing

Genesis 18:10-12
10 Then one of them said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.”
Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. 11 Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. 12 So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?”

God calls Abraham and He gives him a promise, the promise is something that Abraham and his wife Sarah have been desiring all their married life.
But here we are about 24 years later and it seems like God did not come through with His promise. Abraham and Sarah have been walking in obedience to Gods direction for the last 24 years and the one tangible thing they have been looking forward to has not even happened!
Gods call takes you to Gods place where His will happens in His way at His timing!
The problem many of us have especially in this generation is that we are so used to instant things that when God speaks, we expect things to happen immediately. We are so pressed for time and we are so impatient we forget that God is not confined to and limited with time.
Can you Imagine Abraham and Sarah waiting for 25 years for a child of promise? It reminds me of Noah patiently building the ark and waiting for the rain. To others you look and sound crazy when you proclaim all this things that God has spoken over you and yet in the natural sometimes it seems like things are getting worse. Think of Joseph as a teenager talking about how he would be a ruler and then suddenly his life seems to take a turn in the totally different direction but about 13 years later Gods word did come to pass.

Numbers 23:19 (NIV)
19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

Reflections
What is that promise that God has made to you and it has not come to pass?

How has your attitude been as you have been waiting for God to fulfill His promise, are you still waiting in faith or are you confessing doubt?

God kept reassuring Abraham about His promise, looking back, are there instances that God has brought people along your way to remind you of His promise?
