Lessons from Abraham – His Purpose

Genesis 12:2-3 (NIV)
2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.[a] 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”[b]
God calls Abraham to His Place in His Way at His Time for His Purpose!
One of the things many of us have a hard time with is understanding the why? We question why things happen the way they happen because we do not have the privilege of seeing the whole story at a glance.
Abraham was promised as many descendants are the stars in the sky but he only saw them through the eye of faith. God had a purpose when He called Abraham. He wanted to raise a nation through which the messiah would come forth from and the whole of humanity would be blessed through that. God’s purpose was bigger than Abraham and Sarah desiring to have a son, it involved the whole of humanity.
The same applies to us today, Gods purpose over my life is not just about me, it involves other people and nations as well. What we sometimes don’t realize is that when we walk in disobedience then there is a ripple effect that affects generations to come. Think about the decision to have Abraham bear Ishamael with his maid servant. That one decision has had ripple effects that have grown and spread to affect even today’s generation.
To walk in the call of God we have to recognize that His ways are higher than our ways, He can see what we cannot see. So when situations arise that we cannot understand, we need to walk in faith believing that He has a good plan and that His will and ways are superior to ours.
Like Jesus may we be able to say; “Nevertheless not my will but thine be done!
