Lessons from Abraham – His Call
Genesis 12:1-3 (NIV)
1 The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;
I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.[a]
3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”[b]
God calls Abram and gives Him specific directions and a promise attached to it. It is God who picked out Abram and called him for a specific purpose. When you think about it looking at things from a purely human perspective, Abram is the least qualified candidate for what God is calling him to do. Abram and his wife Sarai have no children, Sarai is old and biologically it looks impossible for her to have any children yet God is calling Abram to be the father of nations, sounds ironic right?
When God calls us, it is not because of what we have or what we can do, it is not based on people’s opinion about us, its is based on Him, it is HIS CALL!
As humans we are limited and sometimes, we disqualify ourselves from what God is calling us to do because when we look at our humanly qualifications then we don’t qualify. We sometimes also allow other peoples opinion to slow us down and make us question the call of God over our lives forgetting that He who has called us know more about us than anyone else because He is the one who created us and He knows everything there is to know about us yet He called us!
We have to embrace the call with faith because without Faith we cannot please God, the bible says that everyone who comes to Him must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
Just like with Abrams call, when God calls you, there is always a blessing attached to the call, the blessing is attached to your obedience to the call and just like with Abram, when you walk in obedience to the call then others are blessed through you.
Reflections
What has God called you to do?

Are you walking in obedience to Gods call in your life or are you running in the opposite direction like Jonah?

What is the greatest challenge you are facing when it comes to fulfilling your call?

If you are not sure what Gods call over your life is, ask Him to reveal it to you and He will.
