Excuses: Send Someone Else

Exodus 4:13
13 But he said, “Please my Lord, send the message [of rescue to Israel] by [someone else,] whomever else You will [choose].”

In Gods calendar, it is time to deliver the children of Israel from slavery in Egypt and Moses is the man to do it. When God appears to Moses at the burning bush and commissions him to go back to Egypt and get the job done, Moses is full of excuses. First it is; “Who am I that I should do this?” When God deals with that the he come up with another “Whom shall I say sent me?” Then it is “What if they don’t believe me?” Then again “I am slow of speech and not a good speaker” But finally. The real reason comes out and Moses says “Please send someone else.”
We are the same, God calls us out and gives us an assignment that in our minds is well over our heads and we feel so scared and inadequate we disqualify ourselves. At other times we simply don’t want to go because we are so comfortable in our comfort zone and we do not want to move. This one thing I know, when God call you for a specific assignment, He will equip you and He will foot the bill.
The next verse says that God was angry with Moses

Exodus 4:14-15
14 Then the anger of the LORD was kindled and burned against Moses; He said, “Is there not your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know that he speaks fluently. Also, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be overjoyed. 15 You must speak to him and put the words in his mouth; I, even I, will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you are to do.

God knew that Moses was going to be full of excuses and so Aaron was already on the way to meet Moses and thus Aaron gets the job of being a spokesman for his brother Moses.
Disobedience is a demonstration of rebellion against God and thus the bible says that to obey is better than sacrifice. Sometimes we think the “sacrifices” we make are the things that show how dedicated we are and how much we love God but that is not true. Obedience to His call is the ultimate demonstration of our love for God.

As a friend once asked me. “If God calls you to go to town X to preach and minister to the poor but instead you go to town Y and make lots of money which you use to help those in need, have you walked in obedience?”
What has He called you to do, are you doing it?
