Church Mission: EVANGELISM
Church Mission: EVANGELISM
Understanding The Church
Matthew 28:19
19 Go [c]therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” [d]Amen.
Many people find evangelism to be intimidating but it does not have to be. I believe some of us experienced a harsh and confrontational kind of evangelism and that is why we shy away from it. Evangelism in it’s simplest form is being a witness for Christ. Remember the Disciples were told not to leave Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high when the Holy Spirit comes on them and then they will be witnesses.
Without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit we cannot be effective witnesses for Christ.
God has called every believer to be a witness for him. Evangelism is not just for those in full time ministry as we call it. A changed life is one of the most effective ways to be a witness for Christ. A witness is one who shares what they have seen, heard or experienced thus for us to be witnesses for Christ, we must see hear and experience him. Could it be that some of us struggle to be witnesses because we have not experienced him?
As witnesses and evangelists for Christ we must also know and understand the message of the gospel so that we can share it with others. Our changed lives then become what validates the message. The Bible says in Romans 10 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
We who are saved are the church and out mandate is to be witnesses, we are the preachers that need to go out in our homes and neighborhoods, our places of work and to the unreached to share the good news of the kingdom.
We exit to go out into the world and tell the multitudes the good news of the kingdom and if we are not doing that then we have forgotten why we exist.
